MCN Leadership Program
Strengthening Nonprofits and Communities

Social Leader Action Networks

By necessity, organizations and their boards must pay close attention to administrative and financial requirements, but over time these fiduciary roles can overshadow the original passion which inspired their work in the first place.

The Social Leader Action Networks convene board members, civic leaders, and nonprofit staff to engage and build dialogue around community issues within a specified community. By engaging social leaders across multiple groups in the underlying purposes of their organizations, the Action Networks will make connections bridging across activity areas and constituencies, reduce fragmentation and reconnect organizations to the values and ambitions of their founders.

The Minnesota Council of Nonprofits will be sponsor a number of Social Leaders Action Networks in the Twin Cities and Greater Minnesota starting in March 2007.

Benefits of participating in the Social Leader Action Networks:

  • Increase your organizational networks by meeting other nonprofits and their board members
  • Utilize and engage your board member’s connections and passion for their community
  • Increase understanding of your organization with the community and other nonprofits
  • Increase the understanding of the role/position of your organization with current board members
  • Bring ideas and best practices on how to work on an issue or need in the community outside of your mission
  • Expand your organization’s capacity to work on issues critical to your community

Who should participate in the Social Leader Action Networks?

People who are active in their community, and participate in nonprofit organizations, including board members, committee members, donors or volunteers, program staff and senior management.

Current Social Leader Action Networks:

Dakota County Social Leader Action Network

St. Paul Eastside Social Leader Action Network

Social Leader Action Network for Immigrant-led Nonprofits
