Precinct
Caucuses 2008: Strategy Session
The 2008
race to the White House has already begun. But Precinct Caucuses
kick off the ’08 elections in Minnesota! MCN’s
Minnesota Participation Project (MPP) will begin its 2008
nonpartisan voter engagement work with Precinct Caucus Trainings
across the state in January. We need YOUR help!
In 2006, MPP conducted over 40 precinct caucus trainings –
but that wouldn’t have been possible without the input
and support of each of your nonprofits. Help MPP inform
its precinct caucus training strategy, identify potential
trainers, and set the stage for expanded civic engagement
in this important step in Minnesota’s political process.
Date:
Thursday, October 25

So
what are precinct caucuses?
Precinct caucuses are where community members come together
to build an agenda of the issues most important to each community
and to support candidates to run for elected office. These
events will be happening all over Minnesota in early 2008
and are great opportunities to get involved in your community
and address key issues that you care about!

Juneteenth Celebration and
Festival
The Juneteenth Freedom to Vote Project is the first effort by
Juneteenth Twin Cities to act in a broader way to ground the
Spirit of Juneteenth . This effort will establish a large working
collaborative, which will focus on voter education, registration
and getting out the vote. The Collaborative will first concentrate
on people of African
descent and then on all other peoples of color who are generally
underrepresented in the electoral process. We will also focus
on finding ways to help citizens to register and vote who often
have difficulties exercising their right to vote. Those include
citizens who are blind, disabled, illiterate, infirm elders,
felons who have had their rights restored, and who have English
as a second language. The Juneteenth Celebration and Festival
will feature music, entertainment, arts, a parade, food, and
volunteer voter registration opportunities.
