Nonprofit Leadership
Program
Strengthening Nonprofits and Communities
One of MCN's strategic
goals for the coming years is to build leadership within Minnesota's
nonprofit sector. To this end, MCN has launched a comprehensive
program of services and trainings to expand the leadership of the
nonprofit sector, strengthening individual nonprofits and the communities
they serve. MCN’s Nonprofit Leadership Program has six elements:

Nonprofit
Leadership Institutes

Social Leader Action Networks

Leadership Tools and Training

Public Policy Cabinet

Informal Leadership Network

Nonprofit Career Development
MCN’s work in these areas will be informed by three
considerations:
-
Nonprofit organizations serve as a vital connection to engage individuals. MCN’s approach will balance the demands of functional management while maintaining strong and active community connections, an active democracy and promoting the development of
networks.
-
Senior managers serve in key roles in providing nonprofit leadership and will be a focus of several programs but not MCN’s sole focus. The distributed nature of nonprofit leadership will be addressed through a range of offerings for board members, civic leaders and other key connecting roles within organizations.
-
The nonprofit sector itself continues to develop new approaches and organizational forms, and there is no single model of nonprofit leadership. MCN will respond to the original ideas of people leading nonprofits in developing its programs and the agenda for the leadership development
program.
MCN will also help connect its members to the rich variety of other leadership opportunities in the state, available through academic centers and special programs, and co-sponsor conferences, trainings and research
projects.
