CURA is an
all-University applied research and technology center at the University
of Minnesota that connects faculty and students with nonprofit
organizations, ethnic and racial minority groups, businesses, rural
towns, inner-city neighborhoods, suburban communities, local
governments, and public agencies in Minnesota.

In addition to its other products and
services, Guidestar.org provides a searchable, national database of
nonprofit financial information (IRS Form 990), provided by the
IRS. The service is easy-to-use and free of charge.

Independent
Sector is a national coalition of nonprofits, foundations and
corporations formed to strengthen nonprofit initiative, philanthropy
and citizen action. Independent Sector publishes a number of
reports on the sector, including the New Nonprofit Almanac,
produced in conjunction with the Urban Institute.

The Minnesota Attorney General -
Charities Division has a number of resources on their website,
including sample forms, laws and policies. The site includes a
searchable database of Minnesota nonprofits which are currently
registered with the Attorney General's office.

Budget Project

The
National Center on Charitable Statistics
A
project of the Urban Institute, the NCCS gathers financial and
descriptive data on nonprofit organizational activities and works to
promote the highest standard of data collection. The NCCS
developed the National Taxonomy of Exempt Entities (NTEE) to serve
as a common language for charitable organization classification and
to provide a better fit with the IRS's classifications for exempt
entities. The NCCS also publishes the State Nonprofit Almanac,
which includes statistical profiles for each state.

Wilder
Research
Wilder Research is one of the nation’s
largest nonprofit research and evaluation groups dedicated to
practical research in the field of human services. Wilder Research
works with more than 100 organizations each year to study the
effectiveness of their services and to understand trends and issues
that affect their work.
