Eastside Social
Leader Action Network
The Eastside
is changing and it’s time to join together and strengthen
our connections as citizens of this community. We have many diverse
talents and resources that can contribute, collaborate, and take
action on issues affecting the Eastside of Saint Paul.
Background
The Social Leaders
Action Network (SLAN) is an initiative of the MN Council of Nonprofits
to bring board and staff members of nonprofit organizations, together
with residents and business persons of the communities they work
in, to talk and act upon their mutual interests in protecting and
enhancing our community. It is a “space” to create new
relationships and build upon existing ones; a space enabling a broad
diversity of people who care about the Eastside to come together
and make things happen.
SLAN is based on an assumption that communities at their most basic
are centers of human relatedness; that relationships thrive when
there is a culture of appreciation – when people recognize
the good in each other, when they can share their dreams and concerns
in an affirmative way, and when they are connected in ways that
reveal and leverage their capacities for creating new and better
conditions.
Benefits
• Structured
opportunities and resources for Eastside residents, business people,
nonprofit staff and board members, and other civic leaders to discuss
and learn more about our common concerns on the Eastside.
• A greater
understanding of Eastside issues, developments, and opportunities.
• Building
and strengthening long-term trusting relationships with others who
care about the Eastside, which can lead to valuable yet unanticipated
benefits.
• Informal
breakfast gatherings each 6 weeks or so, enabling us to easily get
together, get to know other Eastsiders, and learn more about Eastside
resources.
• A rotating
group of some four locations throughout the Eastside will help engage
a broad range of Eastsiders and Eastside concerns.
