Strengthening
Nonprofits and Communities
Dakota County Social
Leader Action Networks
In
March 2007, Dakota County nonprofits came together to talk about
larger community issues affecting their nonprofits. Three initial
meetings took place where Dakota County nonprofits were able to
voice their concerns about the issues facing their nonprofit and
community. From these three initial meetings, two issues stood out:
volunteerism and emergency preparedness planning.
There are currently two smaller working groups with the Dakota County
Social Leader Action Network
working on each issue.

The
work of the Dakota County Social Leader Action Network is continuing.
The mission of the Dakota County Social Leader Action Network is:
To provide resources and networking opportunities to
all nonprofit organizations in Dakota County by partnering with
local businesses and government to address key issues that support
the growth of our community.
The
Dakota County Social Leader Action Network (SLAN) and the Dakota
County Office of Planning and Development (OPED) are co-hosting
a free event on an updated profile of Dakota County demographics
covering population and social and economic trends. This workshop
will give nonprofits the opportunity to learn about external trends
affecting the lives of citizens in Dakota County.
