The Minnesota Budget Project prepares research and analysis to inform the public
debate about tax and budget decisions that
impact low- and moderate-income Minnesotans.
Publications are organized into four issue areas: Minnesota
Budget, Minnesota Taxes, Federal Tax and Budget
Issues, and Economic Self-Sufficiency. A
range of issues are covered in the periodical Minnesota
Budget Bites.
The Minnesota Budget Information
page contains publications to help you understand budget decisions and how they affect
low-income Minnesotans. Publications include analysis of the use of the state's
surpluses, comparison of various budget-balancing plans, capital budgets,
and overviews of the state's fiscal forecasts. Minnesota
Tax Information contains analysis of the tax decisions
of the Minnesota Legislature, and particularly the impact these decisions have on
tax fairness. This section includes analysis of recent tax legislation, tax
burdens, tax credits for low-income families, and tax reform. Federal Tax and Budget
Information
publications describe the impact on Minnesota of federal tax and budget
decisions, such as federal economic stimulus plans and the repeal of the estate tax. Economic
Self-Sufficiency Information
covers issues including the minimum wage,
workforce issues, poverty despite work, and income inequality. This
section also includes fact sheets on programs serving struggling
families, including Unemployment Insurance, the Minnesota Family Investment
Program, and child care. Minnesota Budget Bites is a periodical publication
that contains commentary on current
fiscal policy issues, fact sheets, and research reviews. Minnesota Budget
Bites articles often provide a snapshot of longer research pieces.
All issues of Minnesota Budget Bites are listed on the Minnesota Budget Bites
page, and articles are also cross-referenced on the relevant issue pages.
