will be hosting Convenings on Climate Change. We look forward to
bringing together low-income service providers, environmentalists,
faith leaders, labor groups, social justice advocates and other
community members interested in learning why climate change is a
concern for low-income communities, how proposed solutions can create
new opportunities and ways to get involved.
These events will be informal and conversational, providing
an opportunity for discussion around topics such as:

Measure by Measure: Modernizing the Poverty Measure
Sponsored by Center for Law and Social Policy (CLASP)
CLASP is holding an important national audio conference call to
discuss federal efforts to implement a modernized federal poverty
measure. Deborah Schlick, Executive Director of the Affirmative
Options Coalition will be sharing her perspective on state actions
in the absence of a modern federal measure.
Around the nation, states, particularly those with poverty commissions,
are asking such questions as: does the official measure capture
all those who are poor? Does the official measure help demonstrate
progress in poverty reduction due to new policies? What other indicators
are helpful?
Participants will have an opportunity to get their questions answered
about how we currently measure poverty and what efforts are being
made at the federal and state level to improve this measure. Featuring
John Kefalas, Colorado State Representative, Elizabeth Lower-Basch,
CLASP, and Deborah Schlick, Affirmative Options Coalition.
Monday, November 23
11:30 - 12:30
