Government Budget Cuts and Economy Take Their Toll on Nonprofits

Two reports by the Minnesota Council of Nonprofits and the Minnesota Budet Project illustrate the impact of budget cuts and the economic downturn on nonprofits and the people they serve:

  • Nonprofit Workforce Hurt by Government Cuts, Slow Economic Recovery- The Minnesota Council of Nonprofits surveyed nonprofits to find out about staffing changes in the nonprofit sector in response to budget cuts and other economic pressures.  The final report, which shows that over a thousand nonprofit jobs disappeared last year, is now available.
  • Consequences: The Impact of Minnesota's Government Budget Cuts- Although the final impact of service cuts made in the 2003 Legislative Session is not yet known, initial information from many sources demonstrate that the deficit solution has already had a serious, negative impact on the lives of Minnesotans.  This new release from the Minnesota Budget Project describes some of those impacts.
