IRS
offers extension to small nonprofits to file 990-N
Almost 3,000 nonprofit organizations
in Minnesota are receiving a reprieve from the IRS in the
form of a free filing extension. Minnesota’s smallest
nonprofits were for the first time required to file an annual
IRS return this year before the deadline of May 17 or risk
losing their tax exempt status. This week, the IRS announced
that under a one-time-relief program, organizations that failed
to file can still preserve their status by filing returns
by Oct. 15, 2010.
